Description
On the off chance it ever comes up in conversation, this is a shaving SCUTTLE as opposed to a shaving MUG. The difference is that scuttles have a spout. And here's how the 1867 patented scuttle works: hot water is poured into that large spout, and the top of the scuttle, which has a distinctive piece with holes, is where hard block of shaving soap is placed. The holes are for drainage. TaDa! This shaving scuttle has a transfer graphic of the English seaside town of Weston-Super-Mare. The bottom is stamped "Victoria China, Czechoslovakia, 125." The mug is in good, age-related condition -- there are no chips or cracks. The mug is approx. 3 1/2" tall x 6 1/4" wide (including the spout and handle).
